Jane Kapustin, PhD, CRNP, BC-ADM, FAANP, FAAN - Using Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) to Optimize Diabetes Outcomes

I have been working in the field of diabetes and general endocrinology for over 30 years, and I am board certified as an adult NP and in advanced diabetes management. I previously served as the assistant dean for graduate programs at the University of MD School of Nursing and held my faculty practice at the Diabetes/Endocrine Center at the University of MD Medical Center where I led numerous practice and research initiatives.

I currently work as an NP and Director of Diabetes at a private practice in Maryland outside of Washington DC. I travel to all three of our clinics to reach all the patients and ensure they have access to advanced technologies such as CGM, insulin delivery devices, smart pens and insulin pumps. I created and now manage our “Center for Type 1 Diabetes” at one of the locations where we provide resources for patients requiring more advanced care. My latest project there includes the early detection of Type 1 diabetes and the use of preventive strategies to delay or prevent the development of disease.

I have extensive experience in research and publishing, and I continue to teach nationally, regionally, and locally for numerous groups. I also teach and serve as faculty for an online transition to practice program for new NPs and PAs. I currently co-lead the endocrinology community group for AANP, and I serve on advisory boards and as speaker for several professional groups/companies.

MAAPC is also offering on-line presentations that meet the requirements for new and renewing licensure.

CDS Requirement: Safe Prescribing of Opioids & Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023

These presentations meet Maryland’s 2018 requirement for applicants registering for new or renewing CDS registration (Safe Prescribing of Opioids) and the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, and provide 6 CE hours of pharmacology for recertification.

Implicit Bias Training

Beginning April 1, 2022, when you apply for a Maryland health occupation license or complete your renewal application, you will be required to attest that you have completed an approved implicit bias training course. This applies to all “health care professionals” (physician, nurse, dentist, social worker, psychologist, pharmacist, health educator, or other allied health professional). You are NOT required to submit a certificate of completion for this training to your Board and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are NOT required, however MAAPC provides a certificate of completion if needed.
