About the Mission of Mercy
More than 100 million people in the United States are without dental insurance. In the Southern Maryland area there are thousands of adults that don't receive adequate or even basic needed dental care, resulting in a silent epidemic of dental and oral disease. Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy is focused on addressing those needs in a professional and caring manner.
What Services are Provided?
Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy (SMMOM) performs dental services for adult patients (ages 19 and above) that includes: preventive dentistry and cleaning, nutritional counseling, restorative fillings, extractions, and some oral surgery. All dental services are provided by licensed dentists and hygienists, mostly from Maryland.
What is the Cost?
There is no cost to the patient, no insurance form, nothing. All services provided during this event are FREE. Services are paid for by private donation, the State Dental Organizations and Grants. Donations may come in the form of funds, supplies, donated meals or snacks, badges, forms and a variety of other support items.
The 2016 Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy event will be held will be held July 29-30, 2016 at North Point High School, 2500 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.
What Volunteers are Needed?
This clinic is made possible by volunteers. Volunteers are needed to assist in every aspect of this event. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old by July 29, 2016 to participate
Over 400 community volunteers are needed, as well as 200 dentists, dental assistants, hygienists, oral surgeons, physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and dental students.
We need dental and medical professionals licensed in the state of Maryland as well as dentists and hygienists from other states. If you are a licensed medical or dental professional, you may select "Clinical Dental/Medical" on your volunteer registration. Dental and medical professionals licensed in the state of Maryland must submit their license information during registration for verification.
