The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed regulation changes

Posted almost 14 years ago by Elaine Crain

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed changing its regulations to allow PAs and NPs to order respiratory care services without the need for a physician’s co-signature. The new policy, part of the 2011 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems (IPPS), would be effective October 1, 2010. The proposed change also clarifies the ability of NPs and PAs to order rehabilitation services.

We realize that PAs and NPs have been hampered by the old regulations.

Thanks to the fine work of the AAPA and the AANP legislative and government affairs staff, this rule will be changed.
