HB630: Rules of Interpretation - Interpretation of "Physician" - Inclusion of Advanced Practice Nurse and Physician Assistant

Posted about 11 years ago by Elaine Crain

Colleagues:

As you may already know, MAAPC has introduced a bill addressing provider neutral language in the state law. The bill, HB630, is entitled Rules of Interpretation - Interpretation of "Physician" - Inclusion of Advanced Practice Nurse and Physician Assistant and is in its first reading as of February 1, 2013.

MAAPC and NPAM are working closely with The Maryland Academy of Physician Assistants (MAPA) as this bill includes PAs in the provider neutral language.

For more information; to read the text on line; and to see sponsors in the House and Senate, go to: Maryland General Assembly and enter the bill number – HB630.

In order to write, introduce and gather support for this bill, MAAPC needs help from a registered lobbyist and we need your financial support to continue employing our lobbyist.

We have 2 conferences planned to pay for this essential expense but they will not cover the complete cost.

We are therefore asking for donations from all Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants in Maryland to allow MAAPC to continue its quest to bring Maryland in line with the IOM’s vision for healthcare.

Remember MAAPC’s efforts in the past have eliminated the Nurse Practitioner collaborative agreement, ensured Nurse Practitioner Practice independent from the Board of Physician’s oversight, and allowed Nurse Practitioners to do a variety of tasks necessary for our patients’ care.

Please visit our website, consider joining MAAPC, and donate to assist MAAPC to continue improving both Nurse Practitioner practice and that of our fellow Advanced Practice Clinicians.

MAAPC will keep you apprised of the progress of the bill through both the House and Senate and will alert when action needs to be taken!

Sincerely,

Angela Borger, MAAPC President

Lorraine Diana, MAAPC Legislative Co-Chair
