Update from the last MBoN Regulation rewrite meeting!

Posted almost 14 years ago by Elaine Crain

Colleagues:

And finally the work is finished! We have successfully updated the Regulations, the Application, and Shirley and Emmaline have put together an exquisite attestation for all. A brief, to-the-point-one-page form J.

So details:

We updated the section for education to reflect the Consensus Model and the AANP’s Standards of Practice. The Board of Nursing, as you recall, exists for public safety. Shirley and Emmaline wanted this section to allow the Board to keep the high standards that Maryland’s NPs have followed for many years.

We also added a section for maintaining a record of new competencies with the Board. This was covered in the old CA in the (Addendum) New Procedure and Competency check list (sample form), page 15 in the CA as it appears on the MBoN website. This form will be updated for use.

What will happen now:

  • A staff attorney from the MBoN will look at Regs and review for legal issues.

  • Shirley will submit to Board in May 25th at 9am (this is an open meeting, any may attend).

  • When passed by the Board, the Regs will be sent out to the Secretary and the AELR committee to be reviewed for legal issues.

  • Then the Regs will be published on the web for a 30 days comment period.

  • If no changes are needed, the Regs will be adopted by the Secretary and will be effective on October 1, 2010.

Please note: the CA is in effect until Oct 1, 2010. Please do NOT call the Board and ask if it is still in effect LOL J.

I have had a grand journey during the Legislative Session and at the Board meetings. It was instructive, fun, fatiguing, stressful, and too many different things to list…can’t wait to do it again!

Yours in Independence, Elaine
