Colleagues:

During the 2017 General Assembly, Lorraine Diana and Elaine Crain testified on behalf of the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) for their cleanup bill, SB 385/HB 482 – Maryland Nurse Practice Act - Revisions.

The new composition of the Board now has 2 permanent positions for an Advanced Practice Nurse (APNs: CRNP, CNM, CRNA, CNS) and another position that may be an LPN, RN or APN.

MAAPC is continuing to work the MBON and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) to find interested APNs to serve Maryland’s advanced practice nurses. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to have possibly 3 APNs represent our interests on the Board for the first time!

MAAPC’s Emalie Gibbons-Baker will continue to serve her term and she is not up for re-appointment until next year, so we are looking for 2 enthusiastic APNs who are looking for an opportunity to expand their professional persona to include service on a board, and learn new skills. Applicants must be residents of Maryland and currently licensed and practicing in Maryland.

These positions will be appointed by the Governor and begin on October 1, 2017. Applicants must be nominated by their professional association and MAAPC would be delighted to forward the names of any of our members or followers for consideration.

If you are interested in applying, please contact, Elaine or Lorraine at themaapc@gmail.com by July 23, 2017 and we will forward your name to the DHMH.

Once we have sent a name to the DHMH, you need to have on hand a current resume/CV that can be uploaded to the DHMH website and will have to fill out an on-line Appointee Exemption Disclosure (more information at https://govapps.md.gov/appointments/apply/) by August 1, 2017.

Use the comment section below if you have questions or comments so we can keep everyone up-to-date,

Elaine Crain, DNP
MAAPC Communications Chair
