Some great news from AANP to cheer you in this crisis! When we can all take a break let's shoot to add our CNS colleagues!

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act. The legislation, approved by the Senate on March 25,includes a provision permanently authorizing nurse practitioners (NPs) to certify and recertify home health care services for Medicare patients, expands funding for personal protective equipment and provides vital funding to respond to the pandemic. This legislation comes at a critically important time for the health of the nation and our profession as we combat the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This legislation now moves to the President for his signature, which we anticipate will occur quickly. Yesterday, I asked for your help and you responded. In the midst of providing patient care and worrying about your safety and that of your family, you took the time to ensure The Voice of the Nurse Practitioner® was heard. Today, we say thank you. Our voice was heard loud and clear!

As we fight this pandemic, AANP will continue to carry your messages forward to policymakers at all levels. The best policy is made when we work together, and we cannot thank you enough for all you are doing each and every day to serve patients.

Today is not only a victory for our profession, but also for the hundreds of thousands of patients we serve in communities across our great nation. Together, we are ending barriers to NP practice and creating greater access to health care for all.

Sincerely,

Sophia L. Thomas DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, PPCNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP
