MAAPC Members:

The next several years again promise to be exciting ones for MAAPC. The organization will continue to have a positive impact on the APNs we serve, and the Board of Directors will play a central role in this important work.

A primary responsibility of the board of directors is to participate in the oversight and crafting of legislation relating to our practice acts, patient advocacy and the development of networking dinners and conferences we host throughout the year. We have virtual board meetings at least 3 times a year, each meeting consisting of a one-hour discussion with some follow-up questions/discussions by email.

ANCC and AANP acknowledge two or more years of volunteer service during your certification period with an international, national, state; or local health care-related organization; accepted volunteer activities include serving on boards of directors, committees, editorial boards, review boards, task forces, and medical missions.

Nonprofits have management, marketing, public relations/communications, financial, strategic planning, tech, human resources and governance issues. Diving into any of these areas – understanding the concerns and making decisions that will impact a nonprofit – offers you a chance to have a very different role than you may have in your professional life. It’s a chance to develop new capabilities and grow a business (http://boardassist.org/blog/four-great-reasons-join-nonprofit-board/)

There are invaluable skills you’ll acquire serving on a board. In fact, top companies believe board service is a powerful leadership-training tool for their employees. Sitting on any board, whether it’s corporate or nonprofit, can teach you a tremendous amount (http://boardassist.org/blog/four-great-reasons-join-nonprofit-board/)

We are very excited about the opportunities ahead for MAAPC and know that our members’ contributions are invaluable. Please consider serving our community in a leadership position.

If you are interested in serving on our Board, please send your Bio and why you want to work with us to TheMAAPC@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Elaine Crain
