MAAPC Update

Posted almost 2 years ago by Elaine Crain

Colleagues:

MAAPC’s, the Maryland Academy of Advanced Practice Clinicians, Board of Directors has been busy in 2021-2022

  • Passing legislation to expand the practice of our fellow APRNs and working with our State Legislature to support legislation that is beneficial to all Advanced Practice Clinicians and our patients (for details, visit our Legislative Center).
    • In 2023 Maryland APRN’s may see a major change in their licensure, visit The APRN Licensure Compact section to learn more and voice your opinion.

  • Offering on-line presentations that meet the requirements for new and renewing licensure.
    • Implicit Bias Training. Beginning April 1, 2022, when you apply for a Maryland health occupation license or complete your renewal application, you will be required to attest that you have completed an approved implicit bias training course. This applies to all “health care professionals” (physician, nurse, dentist, social worker, psychologist, pharmacist, health educator, or other allied health professional). You are NOT required to submit a certificate of completion for this training to your Board and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are NOT required.
    • CDS Requirement: Safe Prescribing of Opioids. Presentations meet Maryland’s 2018 requirement for applicants registering for new or renewing CDS registration (Safe Prescribing of Opioids). Members can get these CEs for free in the Members Only section.

  • We now belong to ENP’s Preceptor Directory, and our student members can search for preceptors without paying the $125 fee! If you would like to precept, go to Preceptors: Get Listed.

MAAPC has successfully represented APCs within the Maryland State Legislature since 2005, maintaining and improving the scope of practice for all APRNs and supporting our PA colleagues. In 2015, MAAPC’s signature bill SB723/HB999 created Full Practice Authority for Maryland NPs. We are a completely volunteer association and welcome as voting members all APRNs and PAs.

We invite you to join MAAPC and support our efforts to improve practice for all Maryland APCs!

We look forward to seeing you, in-person, at our MAAPC dinner meetings and look for announcements this summer for our in-person conference: Pharmacology Update 2022
