Lisa A. Yager MSN, CRNP, A-GPCNP - Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Clinical Presentation, Diagnosing, Treatment and More

I am a Nurse Practitioner in Vascular Surgery. I hold a Master's Degree in Nursing from Purdue University and a nation certificate from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care. I have been a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for almost 4 years. Prior to obtaining my Master's degree and NP certification I was a nurse for 22 years with experience in cardiac, trauma, intensive care, urgent care, and interventional radiology.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Vascular Surgery, I help treat patients who have been diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or those that have chronic DVT. It is crucial that patients get appropriate diagnostic testing in a timely fashion. I ensure that patient receive the appropriate prescribed anticoagulation medications and follow up care. As an NP in Vascular, I also help manage patients with chronic DVT and post-thrombotic syndrome with use of pneumatic compression and occupational therapy. I work closely with our hematologists to ensure that patients with recurrent DVTs get appropriate blood work and follow up.

It is important that DVTs are quickly recognized, diagnosed, and treated to help prevent further complications such as post thrombotic syndrome, venous insufficiency, lymphedema, or pulmonary embolism.
