Rachel Sherman, DNP, CRNP, FNP-BC, ACHPN - Pharmacology Trends in Hospice & Palliative Care;

Dr. Rachel Sherman is an Army veteran, activist, educator, entrepreneur, and local nurse practitioner with a passion for addressing issues of discrimination, equity, and social justice. She is the co-founder of We the People of Prince George’s County and is a member of the National Association Against Police Brutality, The NAACP- Prince George’s County Branch, Black Nurses Rock Inc., and The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.

In 2014, Dr. Sherman graduated cum laude from Trinity Washington University with her Bachelor of Science in nursing. She began her nursing career at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where she developed a passion for hospice and palliative care. In 2018, she obtained her Master of Science in nursing with high distinction from Chamberlain University and began practicing as a family nurse practitioner in Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. Dr. Sherman is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She also holds a certification as an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse. In late 2018, she opened her own practice with a mission to provide community-based primary care in underserved areas. Dr. Sherman obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2020 from Frontier Nursing University with a focus on addressing health disparities and access to quality health care among minorities in Prince George’s and Charles Counties.

Dr. Sherman currently serves as the Director of Nursing and Clinical Advocacy at Hospice of the Chesapeake where she provides nursing discipline guidance to Hospice of the Chesapeake’s 200+ team members under the nursing umbrella including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants while simultaneously advocating externally for the evolution of advanced illness care in the community. She works to create new partnerships with community healthcare organizations and education institutions to further strengthen the support the organization currently provides to those who need supportive and hospice care. Appreciating that the landscape of nursing and hospice and palliative care are ever-changing, Dr. Sherman prioritizes nursing education and innovation.

CDS Requirement: Safe Prescribing of Opioids & Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023

These presentations meet Maryland’s 2018 requirement for applicants registering for new or renewing CDS registration (Safe Prescribing of Opioids) and the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, and provide 6 CE hours of pharmacology for recertification.

Implicit Bias Training

Beginning April 1, 2022, when you apply for a Maryland health occupation license or complete your renewal application, you will be required to attest that you have completed an approved implicit bias training course. This applies to all “health care professionals” (physician, nurse, dentist, social worker, psychologist, pharmacist, health educator, or other allied health professional). You are NOT required to submit a certificate of completion for this training to your Board and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are NOT required, however MAAPC provides a certificate of completion if needed.
