MAAPC welcomes our new treasurer! Paula Jo Carson, BSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Paula Carson is a Family Nurse Practitioner, employed by the Saint Mary’s County Health Department, School Based Health Center at Margaret Brent in Mechanicsville, Maryland.

Paula began her career in nursing as a licensed practical nurse in 1986. She subsequently completed an Associates of Science in Nursing from Charles County Community College in 1995, a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Stevenson University in 2012 and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Bowie State University in 2016. She is currently board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Over the last 39 years, Paula has worked in long term care, home health, military medicine, correctional medicine, retail health and now public health. She has been instrumental in the opening and daily operations of the School Based Health Center. Her work focuses on the unique needs of school – aged children, improving access to care, managing acute and chronic conditions, and promoting wellness through education and community engagement.

Paula is a member of several professional organizations including the Maryland Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association where she serves as a peer mentor for new nurse practitioners, and the Maryland Academy of Advanced Practice Clinicians where she recently accepted a position on the board of directors as the organization's Treasurer.

Paula currently resides in Calvert County, Maryland with her husband of 40 years, their son and a very spoiled goldendoodle and sphynx cat.
