Dr. Chuck Callahan is a retired Army physician-executive who over 30 years served in a range of leadership positions as a pediatrician, pediatric pulmonologist and intensive care physician. In the last decade of his military career, he served as chief medical officer, chief operating officer and chief executive officer of military facilities and health systems in the Washington D.C. area.
His global health experience includes the care of patients with Ebola in Sierra Leone He is the author of more than one hundred abstracts, articles, books and book chapters and has been awarded more than two million dollars in research grants in asthma, telemedicine and population health.
In the fall of 2015, he transitioned to his position at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore as Vice President of Population Health, supporting the medical center’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of the people of West Baltimore both as a practitioner and as a health care leader. Most recently, he has provided municipal and state public health leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
